How does Skinuvita work?

Targeted irradiation with 311 nm narrowband UVB has long been established as an effective treatment for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. The mechanisms include induction of apoptosis in damaged cells, inhibition of proliferation, and immune modulation.

Absorption in the epidermis leads to DNA lesions that can trigger apoptosis or necrosis. Rapidly proliferating and already damaged cells are more susceptible to radiation damage and are therefore preferentially affected, which reduces proliferation and the proportion of damaged cells.

Under irradiation, reduced expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g. IL-12, IL-18, IL-23, TNF-α) and increased anti-inflammatory mediators (e.g. IL-4, IL-10) have been observed. Skinuvita adapts this established approach into a safe home therapy workflow supported by digital monitoring.

Team

Our History

When Jan Elsner was diagnosed with psoriasis 25 years ago, his long journey toward finding the right treatment started. Phototherapy always gave him the best results, but the constant visits to the doctor’s office took a lot of time and were hard to integrate into his every day life. Medication with strong side effects was not an option for him.

In 2019, this need for a flexible form of treatment sparked a vision: Phototherapy that adapts to your life and not the other way around. Together with Maria, Till, Jens and Janina, Jan founded Skinuvita as a Spin-Off of the University of Bremen. Their goal? Flexible phototherapy that can be done from the comfort of your own home - no more worries about appointments, while maintaining doctoral supervision.

Today exactly that is possible. Skinuvita brings the proven reliability of phototherapy into your home. Easy, safe, and supported by doctors through our app. This way you can integrate the treatment into your daily life without taking away from its medical quality. Our team is constantly growing and we have a clear goal in mind: Rethinking skin health - so that treatment finally becomes as flexible as life itself.
